Selection Process and Interview

We hope that by having applied to us, you will be fairlycertain that we are the teacher training provider to which you wish to commit.  The interview is another opportunity for you to test this.  The interview aims to be a pleasant and welcoming experience in which you are able to gain as much information as possible about us and the programme.  In your application process you need to clearly demonstrate how you meet the entry requirements and core characteristics.

The Interview

Having successfuly been invited to interview, you will be asked to undertake a series of tasks to enable us to assess your suitability:

  • Subject Knowlegde Task (ahead of interview)
  • Teaching Activity
  • Literacy Task
  • An In-tray Exercise
  • Lesson Observation
  • Panel Interview
  • Coffee & Chat with current trainee
  • Documentation Check

The interview will be held at one of our partnership schools and is of half a day’s duration.

If you are successful at this stage – you will be offered a place on the programme.  Decisions are made very soon after the interview and the outcomes communicated through both the SCITT and DfE Apply.

What to Bring to the Interview

  • Original copies of your Degree, A level and GCSE certificates.  If you do not have these you will need to contact the appropriate examination board for duplicates/statements.
  • If you were educated overseas you will need to obtain a statement of comparability from ENIC (The UK National Information Centre for the recognition and evaluation of international qualifications and skills.).
  • Identity documents (Passport and Driving Licence)

Safeguarding

Self-disclosure will be required as part of the recruitment process.

The Basingstoke Alliance SCITT together with Dove House Academy (lead school), Solent Academies Trust and its partnership schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all trainees and staff to share this commitment.  We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices also reflect this commitment and at least one member of the interview panel will be Safer Recruitment trained.  All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks that may also include an online search along with our relevant compliancy checks.
