Welcome to The Basingstoke Alliance School Centred Initial Teacher Training programme (BASCITT, for short!).
Our vision is to enhance the life chances of the local community and beyond by providing high quality training to the teachers and leaders of the future ensuring the pupils of tomorrow have access to outstanding provision.
Teaching secondary education is a challenging and hugely rewarding profession. Teachers have the opportunity to transform children and young people’s lives, “making a real difference”. The process of becoming a successful teacher is a complex one and requires support and training of the highest quality.
For trainees, one of the most significant advantages of SCITT training is that, from day one, they are in a secondary school environment, acquiring the knowledge and skills required for effective teaching. Here at The Basingstoke Alliance SCITT through our collaborative partnership of schools and post 16 settings we provide a unique school based initial teacher training programme led by Dove House School Academy, an outstanding special school. We enable our trainees to develop a SEN specialism which will provide an excellent knowledge base for employment both in mainstream and special school environments.
The common characteristic of our partnership schools is their enthusiasm and ability to provide a high quality individualised training environment for tomorrow’s teachers, where trainees can learn from placements supported by experienced, skilled and committed practitioners. ‘High quality mentoring and coaching is at the heart of this process, with professional and subject mentors who have been trained to a high level by the BASCITT in order to unlock your potential as a trainee teacher’, Trainee teacher 2017.
We educate the ‘whole trainee’ so they can educate all children through the development of highly professional and reflective teachers who are fully versed in practical experience, underpinned by relevant educational research and theory.
