Welcome

Welcome to The Basingstoke Alliance School Centred Initial Teacher Training programme (BASCITT, for short!).

Our vision is to train human-first teachers in the latest research informed pedagogy, in order to provide the local community with passionate and confident teachers who enhance the life chances of our children.

Teaching secondary education is a challenging and hugely rewarding profession. Teachers transform children and young people’s lives, “making a real difference”. The process of becoming a successful teacher is a complex one and requires support and training of the highest quality.

The most significant advantage of school-based training is that, from day one, you are in a secondary school environment, acquiring the knowledge and skills required for effective teaching.

The most important elements of our training programme are that;

  1. We recognise that relationships and human-first teaching are paramount to success in the classroom and
  2. We use the latest research, particularly focused on cognitive science, to inform how we prepare our trainees for teaching.

Here at The Basingstoke Alliance SCITT through our collaborative partnership of schools and post-16 settings we provide a unique school based initial teacher training programme led by Dove House School Academy, an outstanding special school.  We enable our trainees to develop a SEN specialism which will provide an excellent knowledge base for employment both in mainstream and special school environments.

Our trainees feel supported, valued and are highly sought after. Here’s what our trainees have to say:

The common characteristic of our partnership schools is their enthusiasm and ability to provide a high-quality individualised training environment for tomorrow’s teachers. You will be in placements supported by experienced, skilled and committed practitioners.  Quote from a trainee teacher:  ‘High quality mentoring and coaching is at the heart of this process, with professional and subject mentors who have been trained to a high level by the BASCITT in order to unlock your potential as a trainee teacher.’

We educate the ‘whole trainee’ so they can educate all children through the development of highly professional and reflective teachers who are fully versed in practical experience, underpinned by relevant educational research and theory.

Diversity is celebrated at BASCITT.

We are building something very exciting and special here!

The Basingstoke Alliance SCITT together with Dove House School Academy (lead school) and its partnership schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all trainees and staff to share this commitment.  We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices also reflect this commitment and at least one member of the interview panel will be Safer Recruitment trained.  All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks that may also include an online search along with our relevant compliancy checks.
